Nigerian-American actress Yetide Badaki has joined the cast of the Emmy-winning NBC drama series, This Is Us, as a recurring character.

Yetide, whose first episode aired this week plays Chichi, a Nigerian immigrant who met William (Ron Cephas Jones) 15 years ago, when she moved into his building, pregnant and single.

In the past, William befriended the young widow as she struggled with her infant daughter, Sky. We are reintroduced to her character in the present when Randall (Sterling K. Brown) brings his foster daughter, Déjà to the recreation centre near William’s apartment.

The episode was written by Nigerian-American, Kay Oyegun who Badaki thanked for inviting her. Considering how great Badaki was in her debut episode, we can’t wait to see more of her.
