Lewandoski inspires Bayern Munich to a 4-1 win over Chelsea

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski inspired his side to a crushing victory over Chelsea at the Allianz Arena to secure qualification for the quarter-final stage of the Champions League.

Lewy, in a man of the match performance, scored twice and provided the same number of assists as Bayern dumped Chelsea out with an impressive 4-1 victory (7-1 on aggregate).

Chelsea came into the match already three goals down from the first-leg in England and had an insurmountable task going into the return leg. Bayern quickly made it even impossible as Lewandowski scored the first goal inside the first 10 minutes of the game via the penalty spot.

He soon turned provider for the Bavarians second as Perisic rolled the ball in from a Lewandoski’s pass but Chelsea soon pulled one back off terrible goalkeeping by Manuel Neuer who afforded Tammy Abraham a simple tap in to make it 2-1 before half time.

Lewandowski was also involved in the third goal for Bayern, picking a cross to find the unmarked substitute Corentin Tolisso who finished from close range in the 76th minute before the Polish striker hit his 53rd of the season with an emphatic header late on to complete the rout.

Bayern will now face Barcelona in the quarter-final on Friday in Lisbon, and whoever emerges as the winner will go on to face either Manchester City or Lyon on August 19 in the semi-final.

Chelsea has now lost the final chance at claiming any silverware this season having lost the FA Cup final to Arsenal a week ago at Wembley.

Chelsea lost the first leg 3-0 at the Stamford Bridge to Bayern . Many Chelsea fans would have been hopeful of a comeback considering we had a couple of those in last seasons edition of the competition.

But, it proved too steep to achieve for Lampard’s men against a Beyern side who never stop attacking.

They were up as early as the 10th minute when Robert Lewandoski rounded Willy Caballero and was brought down in the area by the Chelsea goalkeeper. Lewy stepped up to take the spot-kick and cooly converts for his 52nd goal in all competition this season.

Bayern soon made it 2-0 as they somehow found themselves in a dangerous position in Chelsea’s final third, allowing Lewandowski to feed Perisic who was unmarked on the right side in the 18-yard area, and he slotted low into the corner of the goal past Caballero.

Chelsea who were clearly struggling to get into the game thought they’d reduced the deficit through Callum Hudson-Odoi’s curling effort from 20 yards, but VAR caught Abraham offside. Abraham, however, make up for it a minute before the break, scoring from close range after Neuer had fumbled Emerson’s low cross.

Bayern at the restart kept getting the better chances while Chelsea’s defenders were made to defend hard as Kurt Zouma brilliantly blocked Thomas Muller who got his footing wrong and struck the ball into the ground and over the bar from close range.

Lewandowski contributed to Bayern’s third, finding Tolisso who was completely unmarked in Chelsea’s area and the Frenchman did the rest, volleying into the net from close range.

Lewandowski, who contributed to all seven goals across the two legs, killed off the game with a thumping header late on, rising above everyone to convert into the right corner from an Alvaro Odriozola cross.
