In 1963, he married Marjorie Lynn Noe when her daughter Cheryl Ann Pontrelli now Cheryl Ann Landon, was nine years old from her first marriage. She gave birth to four children for Michael; Leslie Ann Landon, Michael Landon Jr., Shawna Leigh Landon, and Christopher Beau Landon. Then in 1982, they divorced.
In 1983, he married Cindy Clerico, a makeup artist on Little House on the Prairie. And they had two kids; Jennifer Rachel Landon and Sean Mathew Landon. He had three (3) marriages and two failed marriages with nine(9) children.

Where he spoke about cancer and laid claims that he and his wife were trying to have another child, he promised to fight the disease and even asked his fans to pray for him.
About twelve (12) days later, he had a near-fatal blood clot in his left leg and surgery. He showed up on the cover of Life Magazine after an exclusive private interview about his life, family, and his struggle for survival. On 1 July, at the age of 54, Michael died in Malibu, California, and was buried in Culver City, California, at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in a private family mausoleum. His headstone reads, “He seized life with joy. He gave to life generously. He lives a legacy of love and laughter”.
Michael Jr. released a special memorial called Michael Landon; Memories with laughter and love featuring his family, friends, and fellow stars. David Canary, a Bonanza fellow star, said the one word that describes Michael is “fearlessness” in his business with network brass.
