Drogba Announces Retirement From Football!

 

Didier Drogba has given the news that he will retire from playing football at the end of the season next year and we take a look at his impressive career.

 

The 39 year old had captained the Ivory Coast national team for a total of eight years from 2006 to 2014, scoring a record 65 goals in 104 appearances. He announced that this season may be his last s he still plays for American side, Phoenix Rising FC but he is mostly widely known for his time at Chelsea.

 

He had been a record signing for the English club in 2004 from Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille, and he immediately made impact that won the heart of the fans as he helped the club win their first league title in 50 years. After winning the Champions League in 2012, he left the club for Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua but moved to Galatasaray and later returned to Chelsea again in 2014. Drogba managed only four goals in his return campaign and left for Montreal Impact in 2015 before settling in America with Phoenix Rising FC.

 

Didier Drogba has 296 club goals in 677 appearances and has been awarded the African Player of the year twice in 2006 and 2009.

 

He has announced that he will most likely be retiring after the season next year.
