Award-winning actor Idris Elba, 46, isn’t resting on his oars anytime soon as he continues to work towards a career that stretches his abilities.

In addition to his acting credits, he’s also a producer, musician, DJ and recently made a directorial debut.

He wants to be like Danny Glover, who describes in glowing terms: “He’s the man. He literally does it all,” Elba tells The Hollywood Reporter during a promotional interview for his movie project with Netflix, Turn Up Charlie, which drops on 15 March.

It’s easy to see why anyone would take Glover as a role model: Glover is an award-winning rapper, writer, comedienne, actor, DJ, and television auteur. We call that diversification of career. Maybe Elba is thinking along the same line, likening his career to a buffet.

My career is more like a buffet, and I like it that way,” he explains to the magazine. “It’s what keeps me alive and interested.”

Elba also touched on the rumours,  you know the James Bond rumours, admitting he has never been formally approached for the role.

The actor also shared that his father didn’t live long enough benefit from his success and explained how that experience affects his attitude to his career goals.

I watched my dad die [in 2013]. And he and I had big plans. There was this sense of, ‘You’re going to go to America and make it, son,’ and I did and I wanted to come back and share it with him,” he tells the magazine. “But by that time, he wasn’t well, so I never got the chance to show him the fruits of my labour.

“So, when someone tells me, ‘You’re doing a bit too much.’ I’m like, ‘I’m going to die one day. I’m going to take that last breath, and you know what I don’t want to be thinking when I do? I should’ve done that,’” the actor admits.

Because at the end of the day, there is only one life. “That’s it,” he tells his interviewer. “That’s all we’ve got.”
