Nigerians react after Burna Boy claims he's the 'BEST since Fela'

The self-acclaimed African Giant in the music world, Burna Boy, has spoken again, and this time he has declared himself as the best amongst his peers.

The Afrofusion lord took to his Twitter account to tweet that he is the best after Fela Kuti.

“FACT! I always knew I was and I am THE BEST. Everyone you think is the best KNOWS I’m BEST since Fela Kuti. But @timayatimaya told me something a long time ago that made me not care about being the best. “The World can do without the Best” the world will still spin regardless”, Burna Boy tweeted.

This new tweet from Burna has caused quite an uproar on Twitter as the Nigerian Twitter community weighed in to discuss the merits and temerity of the assertion. Naturally, some people agreed with the African Giant while others thought he was taking his fame too far. Whatever one might think, though, Burna definitely knows how to make the conversation about himself.

“Where were you from 2010-2018? I mean where the f**k are you when Afrobeat was struggling to hit the mainstream? The Best paved the way for you. You came in when the table has already been set and here you’re claiming the BEST since Fela,” tweets an obviously irked user whom Burna Boy’s tweet seems to rub the wrong way.

However, Burna Boy hadn’t appeared to have been moved by any of their reactions as he had not responded to any, except one tweet from a fan who stated that other singers paved the way for him.

Burna Boy probably felt the fan was misguided and took it upon himself to school the twitterer on the topic. According to Burna Boy, none paved the way for him and he is the reason for the respect that Nigeria enjoys in the “Western (music) world“. Burna Boy, who was nominated for the just-held Grammys but lost to Angelique Kidjo, replies:

“Lol. NOBODY paved sh__ for me.Everybody dey find them own. I bin out here, if you knew the way they made us look weak by begging and paying the Western world to like us you will see that no table was set and I’m the one that brought you the respect you currently enjoy.”
