In China, you can get into trouble for hugging trees.

After the mass tree hugging outside China’s imperial garden, Zhongnanhai, a few years ago, the Chinese government concluded that the tree huggers were a dangerous cult and a threat to national unity.

The tree huggers showed graphic photos of dead bodies at their events, claiming that those dead people were murdered by the authorities so that their organs could be sold on China’s highly lucrative black market.

Known tree huggers were rounded up and forced to sign pledges that they would never again hug a tree. Those who resisted were sent to labour camps or prison.
