The Lion King: The Gift is a gift that keeps on giving.
As Beyonce shared with fans behind the scenes of the making of the album, which the superstar singer describes as a “love letter to Africa.”
The less than an hour-long documentary special titled, Beyoncé Presents: Making The Gift, aired on Monday 16th September 2019 on America’s ABC.
In the documentary, Beyonce (full name Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter) shares footage of her family that includes husband, Jay-Z, older daughter Blue Ivy, who made her musical debut in one of the tracks – Brown Skin Girl, and twins Sir and Rumi.
The documentary opens up on a scene Carter’s family in Africa, with the children wearing bathing suits while Beyonce and Jay-Z read to them.
“Visiting countries in Africa, it’s always an emotional experience for me,” Beyoncé says in the scene. “It feels like I’m making peace with a part of me that’s yearning for my ancestral connection. I was blessed to be able to relive some of the experiences that I’ve been very fortunate to have over the years with my entire family.”
She adds: “Knowing where you come from, that’s what I want for my children.”
