Beauty hack: The ultimate guide to applying foundation

When applied correctly, the foundation should look like a perfect second skin – no hyperpigmentation and blemish free.

The key to getting that perfect base is not just getting a good brand but applying the foundation well. Sometimes, in order to get the perfect skin-like face, we tend to go a little extra which will upset the look we are trying to achieve.

The first thing to consider before applying a foundation is to prep your face. Always moisturise your face before applying a foundation otherwise your skin will look flaky, dry and sometimes pale. Also do not forget to prime your face, especially the oil-prone parts of your face (like your T zone).

With foundation, little is more. Do not forget you are trying to achieve a skin-like look, so do not use the whole bottle on your face at once. Conceal blemishes and under-eye circles before applying your foundation. This way you would use little foundation.

The best tools to apply foundation is your finger, a damp Beauty blender or a foundation brush.  Dab the foundation on the centre of your forehead, under your eyes, and on your nose and chin and spread the foundation under your hairline, neck and into your ears. Do not forget to blend till there is no noticeable line where the foundation starts and ends.

One thing to have in mind: Always make sure you get the right foundation for your skin type (oily, dry, normal or combination) and undertone (cool, warm neutral).
