Former US president Barack Obama and in his wife, Michelle, are reportedly in advanced talk with Netflix to produce exclusive content for the streaming website.

Under the deal, which is not yet finalised, according to the New York Times, the couple would produce original series that “highlight inspirational stories” for the 118 million subscribers of Netflix.

Speaking on the proposed deal, Eric Schultz, a former senior adviser to the former president says:

President and Mrs Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspireThroughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories.

According to the New York Times, while the Obamas do not intend to use the platform to directly attach President Trump and the conservatives, it would provide them with an “unfiltered method of communication with the public similar to the audiences he already reaches through social media.”

It is not yet known what the deal is worth and we are not about to speculate but it certainly won’t be a chicken change going by precedence.

Obama reportedly charges $400,000.00 for selected speeches. He and Michelle also reportedly signed a book deal for their time in the White House worth $60m with Penguin Random House.

Michelle’s memoir, Becoming, is slated to hit the bookstores come 13th November 2018.
