Richard Ramires (lover)

The successful editor, Doreen Lioy, got married in 1996 to Richard Ramirez. The marriage lasted for thirteen years before they divorced.

While Doreen Lioy was known for her simple life as an editor and attended catholic, Richard Ramirez, also known as “The Night Stalker,” was a satanist. Ramirez was born on 29 February 1960 in El Paso, Texas. He had a devastating and traumatic childhood experience as his dad repeatedly abused him, which made him sustain several head injuries as a child.

From 1984 until the cops caught him in 1985, Ramirez killed at least 14 people across California. What was most disturbing about his many crimes was that the crimes included Satanic elements — like carving pentagrams into his victims’ bodies.

In August 1985, the media announced that nobody was safe, as Richard attacked both males and females, young and old. As a result, sales of guns, burglar alarms, and attack dogs surged in an attempt to stay secured from the Night Stalker. Ramirez was convicted for outrageous crimes like murder, s_xual assault, and burglarizing. His target most of the time was innocent victims when they were asleep, which terrorized people in California. After his trial, in the mid-1980s, he was found guilty and sentenced to death for killing 14 people.

While Richard Ramirez was on trial, he had quite many devotees across America who wrote him letters. Shortly after Richard Ramirez was arrested, Doreen Lioy realized she was captivated by the man. She wasn’t discouraged by the fact that he was found guilty of horrible crimes, from slicing a woman’s throat so deeply that she was nearly beheaded to Goughng out another victim’s eyes out not talk of his Satanism, which he flaunted during his trial.

Doreen remained a skeptic of the crimes he was guilty of. Although she’s certainly not the only woman who has fallen for a serial killer at that time, Lioy stood out among many of them because she simply refused to accept the verdict on him and was also by far the most persistent. Lioy sent him 75 letters in 11 years.

Lioy also became a vigorous defender of Richard Ramirez in the public eye; she went on to the point of sometimes singing praises of his character in interviews. Like she once did in an interview on CNN, saying, “He’s kind, he’s funny, he’s charming, I think he’s a great person. He’s my best friend; he’s my buddy.”

Doreen’s marriage to the Richard Ramirez

They started communicating in 1985, after which Lioy visited Ramirez in prison. After 11 years of writing love letters to her prospective husband, Ramirez proposed to Lioy in 1988. They both tied the knot in 1996 at California’s San Quentin State Prison.

Although Lioy was thrilled that she got to marry her dream man, the news of her wedding sent shockwaves across America; their reactions, however, did not matter to Lioy. After all, the 1996 ceremony took place in San Quentin State Prison — she was now married to, and her new husband was the disreputable serial killer Richard Ramirez.

On the day they got wedded, Lioy got herself a gold band and a platinum band for Richard Ramirez. He explained before this time that satanist do not wear gold. Lioy was firm in her belief that Ramirez is innocent despite circumstantial evidence. She used to say, “I can’t help the way the world looks at him. They don’t know him the way I do.”

Stamos, one of Doreen’s mentees, said he remembered Lioy as a “very lonely woman” and later examined her choice to marry Richard: “To be that lonely that this is the only man on the planet that she can find, I just thought, ‘How horrible.’ This man is the personification of evil — just a monster.”

For Doreen, she had to realize that Richard would not give her the one thing she wanted: children. She said, “I love children, I’ve never made known any secret to him that I wanted five or six children. But that dream didn’t come true for me, and I’ve just replaced it with a different dream. Which is, being with Richard.”

Like every ordinary marriage, things went smoothly at the beginning until Richard Ramirez began to show a lack of remorse for his past misdeeds, and crimes began to create a rip in the happy union. When Richard was indicted by pieces of evidence in the murder of a 9-year old girl, this time around, the illegal activities were so much, and Doreen Lioy began to believe that he was truly a serial killer. This eventually fueled Doreen Lioy’s resolve to distance herself from him in 2010 until he died on 7 June 2013 at the age of 53 at Marin General Hospital from complications of B-cell lymphoma. This blood cancer-related case affected his lymph nodes.

Eventually, Ramirez was never executed but died of inconveniences from B-cell lymphoma in 2013. Many believe that she may still be alive but off the radars somewhere in the USA. Furthermore, many believe she is still dealing with her grief and shock over the guilt and shock of the eventual death of her late immoral husband that she preferred to vanish from the public. She is not on any social media and has not been spotted in any public event after the death of Richard Ramirez since 2013. Her reconciliation with loved ones is still unclear — and her whereabouts today remain unknown.

Net worth

According to authoritative sources, Lioy has an estimated net worth of almost $300,000 in late-2018, earned through her success in the editing industry. She earned a very good salary as a magazine editor and editor of TV documentaries though details of her works were never released to the public. She also wrote a book titled The Night Stalker; Richard Ramirez was also a good source of income for her.

Conclusion

Their relationship most likely did not end well. Although Ramirez’s obituary didn’t include any mention of a divorce, reports say Lioy and Ramirez did not see each other for a few years before he died. What drove the couple apart is also unclear, but some believe the 2009 evidence that he murdered a 9-year-old in 1984 was too much for Lioy to take, which caused her to distance from him, while others argue that Ramirez’s health problems led to the couple’s separation.
