Weekend watchlist: “Money Heist Season 5”, “Cinderella”, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”; 10 new films and TV shows debuting this weekend.
If you have had a busy week and you still plan to have anything short of a relaxed weekend, you are wrong. Cut yourself some slack, take a break, and treat yourself to some enjoyment. In case you don’t quite know how; I know of something that might work… Films and TV shows. In the next few lines, I will be sharing with you some of the new films and shows coming out this weekend.
1. Cinderella
This one is a perfect blend for lovers of romance and musicals. “Cinderella” is a 2021 romantic musical film based on the fairy tale of the same name by Charles Perrault. It stars singer Camila Cabello as the title character in her acting debut. It is a musically driven and bold new take on the traditional story you grew up reading. Our heroine (Cabello) is an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow, but with the help of her Fab G (Billy Porter), she is able to persevere and make her dreams come true. “Cinderella” starts to dazzle in cinemas across the world today, Friday, 3 September. It is also streaming on Prime Video.
2. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” is a 2021 American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Shang-Chi. Martial-arts master Shang-Chi confronts the past he thought he left behind when he’s drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. The film stars Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, Destin Daniel Cretton, Kevin Feige, Simu Liu, Ronny Chieng, Tony Leung, and Meng’er Zhang.

3. The Gateway
“The Gateway” is an American crime thriller film directed by Michele Civetta and starring Shea Whigham, Olivia Munn and Frank Grillo. Parker is a down on his luck social worker who finds himself in over his head when he tries to protect his client from her recently paroled husband. Can Parker save the family from the violent threat of the maniacal drug dealer and his crew, desperate to reclaim their priceless stash at any cost? The Gateway opens in cinemas today.
4. Money Heist season 5 (Vol. 1)
Sometime in May, it was announced that the final season of the beloved Netflix series, Money Heist, will be released in two batches, with each one consisting of 5 episodes. The day is finally come and vol. 1 of the final season debuts today on Netflix. The gang has been in the Bank of Spain for over 100 hours, and the Professor is at risk. To make matters worse, a new adversary is coming: the army. If you do nothing else this weekend, don’t miss this one!

5. Worth
“Worth” is a biographical film directed by Sara Colangelo, from a screenplay by Max Borenstein. It stars Michael Keaton, Amy Ryan, Stanley Tucci, and more. An attorney learns a lesson in empathy when he is faced with the near-impossible task of determining how to compensate families who suffered incalculable losses as a result of the September 11th attacks in 2001. It is based on true events, and if you like biopics, “Worth” will suit you. Prepare for an emotional rollercoaster, though, as you Netflix and chill with this one.
6. Mogul Mowgli
“Mogul Mowgli” is the debut narrative feature from award-winning documentary filmmaker Bassam Tariq. It follows the story of a rapper (Academy Award-nominee Riz Ahmed, The Sound of Metal) who is struck down by an illness that forces him to face his past on the cusp of his first world tour, his family, and the uncertainty of his legacy. “Mogul Mowgli” premieres in cinemas today, 3 September.
7. We Need To Do Something
“We Need to Do Something” is a 2021 American psychological horror film directed by Sean King O’Grady. Seeking shelter from a storm, a family find themselves trapped for days with no sign of rescue and untold evils lurking just beyond the walls in this wildly fun house-of-horrors thrill ride. It stars Pat Healy, Sierra McCormick, Sean King O’Grady, Max Booth III, Lisette Alexis, and John James Cronin. This one is for the horror junkies; use this to quench your adrenaline thirst this weekend. It debuts in cinemas today.
8. Saving Paradise
A ruthless corporate raider is forced to return to his small-town roots, where he suddenly inherits his father’s nearly bankrupt pencil factory, which is the heart and soul of the depressed community. With the foreclosure deadline looming, he must decide to either let it close or join the community’s fight to save it. “Saving Paradise” features William Moseley, Jay Silverman, Johanna Braddy, Mimi Kennedy and a host of others. It is based on true events, and it debuts today in cinemas across the US.
9. Zone 414
“Zone 414” is an upcoming American science fiction thriller film written by Bryan Edward Hill and directed by Andrew Baird. A sci-fi thriller set in fictional Zone 414; a dangerous, dark colony of humanoids known as “the city of robots.” The colony’s creator (Fimmel) hires private investigator David Carmichael (Pearce) to track down his missing daughter. David teams up with Jane (Lutz), a highly advanced A.I. equipped with not just the same technology as her fellow humanoids but with human emotions, feelings, and dreams. They travel through the city, uncovering clues and a crime that questions the origins and true purpose behind the city of artificial humans. “Zone 414” premieres today in cinemas across the world.
10. Q-Force
“Q-Force” is an American adult animated comedy series on Netflix. Agent Steve Maryweather was once the Golden Boy of the American Intelligence Agency until he came out as gay. Unable to fire him, they sent him off into obscurity. Instead, he assembled an LGBTQ+ squad of misfits – together, they’re Q-Force. “Q-Force” made its debut on Netflix on 2 September. You can stream from the comfort of your home. Not in the presence of children, though, but you can enjoy it with your partner.
