Nigerians call out former presidential aide for blaming the masses for the country’s electoral mess

When a former Presidential media aide to President Goodluck Jonathan reposted an opinion that the masses have more to do with electoral fraud than corrupt politicians, little did he know that Nigerians were in no mood to be lectured to by a politician

Writing on his Facebook page, Doyin Okupe wrote (edited for grammar): “Our problems in Nigeria is not the dumb politicians who constantly turn deaf ear to the plight of Nigerians… Our problem is the dumb, weak and visionless people who constantly vote for them. 2019 is just around the corner when politicians will give them a slice of bread in exchange for another 4 or 8years of their destiny.”

On the face of it, the statement was one that ordinarily will call for reflection and moral examination, but coming from one who many perceived to have benefited from past administration, the result was vastly different.

While some questioned on what moral authority the politician stands to complain, many pointed out that the politician benefited from the same practices that he now seems to deride.

Yet some are of the opinion that the main culprits here are ignorance and poverty, and not the people that accept handouts from politicians.

But there was also a small segment of people who thought that the former presidential aide may have made some salient point.
