Kwara State University Lecturer Kills Himself.

A lecturer attached to the department of Crop Production, College of Agriculture, Kwara State University (KWASU), Dr. Solomon Osunola, has reportedly killed himself.

The director of the University’s Public Relations Department confirmed the incident on Friday in Ilorin. Dr. Isiaka Aliagun said that the late Dr. Solomon was a lecturer 1 with the college of Agriculture and had joined the staff in 2010.

Sources revealed that a steady decline in the mental stability of Dr. Solomon had begun after the University discovered that prior to joining the Institute as a fulltime staff; he had resigned from the Federal ministry of Agriculture. Dr. Aliagan said that he was not led off but instead, his appointment was converted to a contract agreement.

However, the decline in his mental state continued and he was said to often times misbehave. Despite receiving offers of another fulltime job in a different University, Dr. Solomon had reportedly shown no willingness.

His body had been discovered on Monday after relations had to break down his door when he failed to come out on that Friday morning.

The need for specialized therapists have seen a dramatic increase as either the rate of suicides in the country have increased or reports on them have been gained a wider circulation. As from the case of the late lecturer who was once taken to a Cleric for spiritual help, the cry for people to stop ignoring mental help would not be silenced anymore and the need to limit the way we see every illness as a spiritual attack is obvious as well.
