It’s ok to be humble but also be selective

Most times, people confuse being selective as being arrogant. It is one thing to be humble and selective, and another thing to be proud or arrogant.

Being selective doesn’t mean you are arrogant or proud, it simply means you know your worth. It only implies you know who you are, what you want, and how to go about getting what you want. You don’t just accept anything that comes your way all in the name of being humble. Humility is not synonymous with stupidity or timidity. In other words, you can term it “confidence.”

Confidence is that feeling of self-assurance, knowing yourself. Confidence is not arrogance. Whoever poses as arrogant or displays such tendencies lacks self-confidence and just uses the arrogant nature to shield off his or her timidity. Confidence also has nothing to do with over-confidence. When a person is over-confident, he or she is just pompous, domineering, egotistic, imperious, over-bearing, puffed-up, proud, arrogant, and every other word you can use to describe this attitude.

So what are we saying? You can be humble and still be selective because you know you worth and you have confidence in who you are. You are not and should not be easily swayed by anything that passes you by. Know how to make and stand by your own choice and not allow any intrusion. If it goes down well with you, do it. If it doesn’t go down well with you or your person, deviate from it. That simple! For example, the man your family wants you to get married to is not your choice, but because you have to appear “humble,” you take him up as a life partner with no opportunity to be selective of who you want. You eventually end up miserable because you were deprived of an opportunity. On the other side, you can be selective. Why? Because you know your worth and you know what will suit you the most.

Be humble and also be selective.

Subscribe to being humble, but also subscribe to being selective. It’s not everything that people do that can fly for you. Don’t try to be Paul when you are Williams, or try to be Sharon when you are Channel. Stay true to who you are and what you believe in. Love yourself and stick to being you. It pays more and boosts your confidence level even as a humble fellow.
