How not to accidentally become a drug mule while travelling

A Nigerian social media user has shared tips on how not get caught accidentally carrying drugs and other illegal substances why travelling

The post was written by Instagram handle @nigerianabroad. The user writes that it is alright to be paranoid and that one should check and recheck any item given to them by anyone for any reason. According to them, illegal substances can be hidden in canned tins so for them, it is a no-no to carry accept such items. They also warned not to leave belongings with strangers at the airport.

“In the spirit of travelling to Asia (China and Japan) next month, I decided to write a simple guide. I mostly travel with a carry-on, so I always have the perfect excuse for why I cannot collect yam from your village people and bring it all the way to London.

“Once your family members/friends/colleagues hear your visa has been granted, it’s thanksgiving time not because they are excited about your trip, but because a new courier man/woman has been born.

Tip #1:

Do not accept canned items you can’t open to check. Apparently, people can hide drugs in food in canned food items.

Tip #2:

Contraband items can also be hidden in food parcels like garri, rice, yam, so be sure to double check the items.

Tip #3:

Make sure you research the items you are carrying to be sure it’s not illegal in the country you are visiting.

Tip #4:

If you usually use an illegal substance, make sure you check your pockets, handbags, you don’t want to end up travelling with leftovers.

Tip #5:

Carry your bags everywhere in the airport, don’t leave it with a ‘nice stranger’

Be paranoid. I assure you, your village people are most likely out to get you.
