Google says it is scrapping its age-long search page, the one that looks like this:
For a news feed, which will appear in its flagship app for Android and iOS, simply called Google.
What this means in practice
The news feed will provide a personalised stream of articles, videos, and other content. The feed will include items drawn from users search history and topics users chooses to follow. It is designed to turn Google’s app into a destination for browsing as well as search. Google is hoping users will begin opening its app the way they do Facebook or Twitter, checking it reflexively throughout the day for quick hits of news and information.
And bonus
Google says there won’t be ads in the feed for the present at least, one imagines though that that could change eventually, Google, after all, is in the business of ad placement and it is running out of ad spaces on mobile devices.
Verdict
Super. We love it !
