Election 2019 Saga: We Didn’t Endorse Fayose As Candidate- CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria has refuted rumors that they endorsed the candidature of the Ekiti State Governor for Presidency.

Last week some news sources reported that the CAN had ‘praised’ the decision of Gov. Peter Ayodele Fayose to run for the office of President in 2019 and soon after, other reports started emerging that the organization had recommended him and even wrote a letter to that effect.

Bishop Stephen Adegbite who is the Director of National Issues for the Association has denied the reports. He stated that it is not the organization’s character to endorse any candidate and they can only pray that the right person becomes victorious.

He also urged other Christians to come out and pray for the country and also to put the current leaders in the hands of God to deliver the dividends of democracy to everyone not minding their religion.

“We are an umbrella for all Christians in Nigeria … how can we support or endorse the candidature of anyone?” Bishop Adegbite was quoted as saying.
