CBN freezes accounts of influencers promoting #EndSARS

The apex bank of Nigeria, CBN (Central Bank of Nigeria), has frozen the accounts of some social media influencers that promoted #EndSARS protests.

The CBN was granted a court order to freeze the accounts of 19 individuals and a public affairs company linked to the End SARS protests.

According to Channels TV, the request, which was granted by Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja was filed by the apex bank on 20 October 2020.

The court order, addressed to the head offices of certain banks, directed the banks to freeze all transactions on the 20 accounts on the list annexed to the CBN’s application as Exhibit A and all other bank accounts of the defendants/respondents for a period of 180 days pending the outcome of investigation and inquiry currently being conducted by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The banks addressed are Access Bank, Fidelity Bank, First Bank Nigeria, Guaranty Trust Bank, United Bank of Africa and Zenith Bank.

The affected individuals include are:

  3. Mary Doose Kpengwa
  4. Saadat Temitope Bibi
  5. Bassey Victor Israel
  6. Wisdom Busaosowo Obi
  7. Nicholas Ikhalea Osazele
  8. Ebere Idibie
  9. Akintomide Lanre Yusuf
  10. Uhuo Ezenwanyi Promise
  11. Mosopefoluwa Odeseye
  12. Adegoke Pamilerin Yusif
  13. Umoh Grace Ekanem
  14. Babatunde Victor Segun
  15. Mulu Louis Teghenan
  16. Mary Oshifowora
  17. Winifred Akpevweoghene Jacob
  18. Victor Solomon
  19. Idunu A. Williams
  20. Gatefield Nigeria Limited.
