Western and Southern Open: Novak Djokovic and Milos Raonic to square off in the final

Tennis world number one Novak Djokovic after seeing off Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut in the semi-finals will play Milos Raonic in the final of the Western and Southern Open.

Serbian Djokovic rallied from behind to beat the eighth seed 4-6 6-4 7-6 (7-0) and maintain his perfect record in 2020.

Canada’s Raonic defeated Greek fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

Djokovic won the 2018 edition of Western and Southern Open – also known as the Cincinnati Masters.

He didn’t quite set off how he would have loved against Bautista Agut as he lost a set for the first time in this year’s tournament after double-faulting.

He, however, bounced back in the second set despite having struggled with the neck injury that has plagued him all week long, levelling the match with a break on his second set point.

Djokovic dominated that from start to finish at Flushing Meadows, wrapping up victory in exactly three hours to extend his winning record this year to 22-0.

It was a very strange match, I must say,” said Djokovic.

I don’t know how I won it, to be honest. He was the better player, I didn’t feel good on the court at all in any aspect.

Somehow I managed to pull this one through.”

Djokovic will equal Rafael Nadal’s record of 35 ATP Masters 1000 titles if he wins Saturday’s final.
