THISDAY Awards: The reason John Legend was in Nigeria

The Grammy Awards winner John Legend came to Nigeria and Nigerians weren’t aware because there were no pictures of his arrival or talks about his coming.

The wife of the singer, Chrissy Teigen, took to her Twitter handle to spill the beans and it obviously came as a shocker to Nigerians.

A number of reactions were gotten from the news as many Nigerians couldn’t reconcile the fact that such a music icon would be in Nigeria and we were not even aware, much less told why he came.

It’s no brainer that many of us were dying to know what exactly brought the music icon to Nigeria. Thankfully, our curiosity has been satiated and we can now tell you with confidence the reason John Legend visited Nigeria.

John Legend was invited by the chairman of THISDAY Newspapers – Mr. Nduka Obaigbena, to come to perform at their 25th-anniversary celebration and award night.

And if you are wondering what the noise about that was all about. We’ll try to explain.

John Legend is a black American singer and was the first black American to have won all the major US entertainment award includiing the Oscar, Grammy, Emmy and Tony awards. So, yes it is a big deal that he came to perform in the country and Nigerians couldn’t storm the place in their numbers.

The singer performed at Eko Hotel Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos on Monday, 20th January 2020.

Videos from the stellar performance of the singer have circulated on the internet and eliciting various reactions from his fans.
