Nigeria’s African Giant singer, Burna Boy, gotten beaten to the Grammy Awards by Angelique Kidjo.
It was Burna Boy’s first Grammy nomination and his fans have been very optimistic that he might win the coveted award but unfortunately, he lost to Angelique Kidjo.
This is such a piece of heartbreaking news for the fans of the singer. Burna was nominated in the World Music Album category for the Grammy Awards 2020.
The Best World Music Album category recognises performers outside the United States who showcase non-European, indigenous influences in their body of work. The award was first handed out in 1992 to Mickey Hart.
Other artists who did not make it in the category at the ceremony at Staples Centre in Los Angeles are Gece — Altin Gün, What Heat — Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By Jules Buckley and Fanm D’ayiti — Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet.
When Angelique Kidjo came out to get her award, she went ahead to dedicate the award to Burna Boy. She says, lifting up her award: “This is for Boy. Burna Boy is amongst those young artists that come from Africa that is changing the way our continent is perceived …”
