Ramsey Nouah makes directorial debut in, wait… Living In Bondage: Breaking Free! [Photos]

Raise your hand if you remember the Nollywood classic, Kenneth Nnebue’s Living In Bondage?

Regarded as the precursor of modern Nollywood, the Kenneth Nnebue film Living In Bondage is getting a sequel titled Living In Bondage: Breaking Free, over 25 years after the two-part first film was released in 1992 and 1993.

The original Living In Bondage tells the story of Andy Okeke (Kenneth Okonkwo) who was lured into sacrificing his beloved wife Merit (Nnenna Nwabueze) but knew no peace as he was haunted by Merit’s spirit. He would later be delivered after he confessed.

Reports say Ramseh Nouah bought the rights to the movie from Kenneth Nnebue in 2015 with the intention of remaking the film. However, plans changed and instead, a sequel was planned based on years after the events of the original film.

Living in Bondage: Breaking Free follows Nnamdi, Andy Okeke‘s mysterious son, and his vaunting quest for the big life, one that he would do whatever it takes to make a reality. Nnamdi’s untamed quest for the quick buck, fast car, easy living, inevitably took him on a perilous journey.

Some of the cast from the original story also return for the sequel including Kenneth Okonkwo, Kanayo O. Kanayo and Bob Manual Udogwu. The sequel also stars Enyinna Nwigwe, Nancy Isime, Munachi Abii, and more.

Living In Bondage: Breaking Free will also mark Ramsey Nouah’s directorial debut.

He says: “I could not have asked for a bigger platform on which to make my directorial debut. From the power of this story, the intensity of the script, the cache of the cast and the quality of my technical support, there is no story as fascinating as Living In Bondage: Breaking Free. It is truly the movie maker’s dream project – and I should know, working on both sides of the camera. I cannot wait to pack cinema seats with this truly movie magical work.”

The sequel is written by Nicole Asinugo and C.J. Obasi with an original score produced by Larry Gaaga.

The film will hit the cinemas on 8 November 2019.
