Premier League Roundup: Jesus makes the difference in City vs Sheffield clash; Other Premier League results

Gabriel Jesus‘ strike at home to Sheffield United was the only difference as City grabbed yet another maximum three points while keeping it tidy at the back too.

The goal ended a nine-game Premier League goal drought for the Brazillian attacker and helped Man City to a club-record 12th win in a row as they beat Sheffield United 1-0 to extend their lead at the top of the table.

The Brazilian rammed the ball past Aaron Ramsdale inside just nine minutes into the contest after some woeful Sheffield United defending.

The win keeps City sitting atop the Premier League table three points clear with a game in hand and are now unbeaten in 19 matches across all competitions.

Sheffield United remain bottom of the table, 10 points from safety, and now face a crucial test against fellow strugglers West Brom at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening.

Everton 0-2 Newcastle: Callum Wilson grabs a double as the Magpies win to ease pressure on Steve Bruce

Premier League Roundup

Callum Wilson struck two second-half goals to hand Newcastle a vital first win in nine Premier League games and ease the pressure on Steve Bruce as they beat a flat Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park.

Wilson had earlier missed Newcastle’s two best chances either side of half-time, but made up for it scoring his 50th Premier League goal with a fabulous, inch-perfect header from Jonjo Shelvey’s corner.

Then at stoppage time, Wilson got his and Newcastle’s second finishing low past Jordan Pickford when one-on-one as Everton were caught high up the pitch looking for a leveller (90+3).

Managers reactions…

Carlo Ancelotti on Richarlison: “We were lazy, we were slow and we were not focused. We gave away 12 corners to them, a lot of throw-ins. We didn’t win duels, second balls… this is the game.

“You can only show quality if you are there in this game because the game is about winning duels, second balls, avoiding corners, avoiding throw-ins. We were not on the pitch today.”

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce said: “We look far better in terms of personnel available, we’ve been struggling big style. We’ve had an awful eight weeks with injury and illness.

“[The tactical change] is something we’ve been working on for weeks. If you looked at Newcastle in the past year it was sitting deep and hitting on the counter attack.

“I think the players have enjoyed the change, but you need a result to go with it. Today, of course, everyone is happy. I haven’t turned it around now, just on one performance. I hope in time if we stay fit and healthy we’ll be OK.”
