The match between the two sides was anticipated by many supporters of the Super Eagles because it had been labeled as the decider to prove Nigeria’s ‘World Cup Worthiness’ and tthey did not disappoint with their 4-2 win.
Just like magic, the match had not progressed beyond 30 minutes before Argentina took the lead courtesy of Ever Banega and as the Eagles rallied to get their self back on track, Manchester City’s legend, Aguero doubled the lead but Kelechi Iheanacho was on hand to half the deficit just before the halftime whistle.
Nigeria came flying out in the second period and Alex Iwobi who had scored the goal that sealed the country’s World Cup chances proved his place in the team by grabbing his first of the day in Russia. The draw was short-lived as Brian Idowu put the Eagles ahead for the first time in the match as Argentina continued to search for their rhythm and failing.
The final goal of the night came via the Arsenal youngster again, and Alex Iwobi rounded off the impressive showing from the Super Eagles.
Although it is a friendly match that saw Lionel Messi sit out the match, the win goes to show that the Nigerian team under the management of Gernot Rohr will put up a good show in Russia next year.
