6. The Accursed (December 1, 2022)
The Accursed is one of the upcoming horror movies of 2022 that you need to see. It is different from the 2021 horror flick of similar name which featured Yancy Butler and Izabela Vidovic. In this version, actress Sarah Grey plays Elly, a young girl who lost her mother to suicide is lured by a demon living inside an elderly woman (played by Meg Foster). The demon tries to break free with Elly’s help and sets upon her through hallucinations and reality-defying dreams. Soon, her visions start to seem all too real. The movie also features Mena Suvari, Alexis Knapp, Sarah Dumont, Kim Kendall, Ava McAvoy, and others. It will be released in cinemas on December 1, 2022.
5. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey (October 20, 2022)
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is an upcoming independent slasher movie that is based on the fictional characters of A. A. Milne’s 1926 book Winnie-the-Pooh. It retells how life turns around for Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet after Christopher Robin leaves them behind and goes to college. Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet in this movie become bloodthirsty murderers as they grow hungrier and eat the others, including Eeyore. The movie is produced by Jagged Edge Productions and directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield. It is to be distributed by ITN Studios and MovieCompany, two well companies that handle independent movies distribution. Its cast include upcoming stars such as Amber Doig-Thorne, Maria Taylor, Danielle Ronald, Natasha Tosini, and others.
4. Smile (September 30, 2022)
Smile is a supernatural horror movie based on the 2020 short film, Laura Hasn’t Slept, both of which are helmed by Parker Finn. It is to be distributed by Paramount Pictures and will premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 22, 2022. It features well-known names like Sosie Bacon, Jessie T. Usher, Kyle Gallner, Caitlin Stasey, Kal Penn, and Rob Morgan. The movie traces the story of Dr. Rose Cotter, who after witnessing a traumatic incident begins to experience supernatural things. It turns out that the only way to move forward is to overcome her past. The film will be available in theatres after it is released on September 30, 2022. Much later, it would be available for streaming on Paramount+.
3. Halloween Ends (October 14, 2022)
Halloween Ends is stated to be the final film in the trilogy that began in 2018 with the movie Halloween. However, it is not the last film we will be seeing from the franchise, which has given us 12 productions already. In this 2022 installment, we will see Jamie Lee Curtis’ character Laurie Strode face ‘the evil she can’t control.’ James Jude Courtney, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, and Kyle Richards will all reprise their roles as well. It will end in the cinemas on October 14, 2022, after which it will be available for streaming on Peacock, 60 days later.
2. The Pale Blue Eye (December 23, 2022)
The Pale Blue Eye is horror crime film with gothic themes directed by Scott Cooper. It is based on the 2006 novel of the same name by Louis Bayard and features an ensemble cast of Christian Bale, Harry Melling, Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Harry Lawtey, Simon McBurney and other. The plot revolves around a veteran detective investigating several murders in New York, accompanied by a young cadet named Edgar Allan Poe. It will be released in theatres on December 23, 2022, after which it will be streaming on Netflix from January 6, 2023. The trailer is not yet available but it promises to deliver the terrible chills you should expect from a horror movie.
1. Hellraiser (October 4, 2022)
Finally, a reboot of Hellraiser franchise is happening and the movie is slated for release on October 4, 2022 on Hulu streaming network. The new Hellraiser movie will still be based on the Clive Barker novella The Hellbound Heart. It stars Sense 8 alum Jamie Clayton as Pinhead and Grand Army actress Odessa A’zion as Riley, alongside Brandon Flynn, Goran Visnjic, Drew Starkey, Adam Faison, Aoife Hinds, Selina Lo, and Hiam Abbass. Director David Bruckner, known for his work on the 2007 horror film The Signal is helming the project.
