The dust that gathered between superstar playmaker Mezut Ozil and Arsenal football club looks to be close to settling as the German set sights on joining a new club this January.
In a social media question and answer session on Monday, 11 January 2021, Mesut Ozil confirmed that he would love to join Fenerbache after he was asked by a fan.
For over three hours, Ozil responded to fan questions via his Twitter page. Most of the questions were about his playing time at Arsenal and Germany.
He revealed that he does not regret his decision to play for both teams. Speaking about Arsenal, the midfielder said: “Of course – there have been many ups and downs so far, but all in all I’ve never regret my decision to join Arsenal.
“And to be honest the last couple of games before the corona break in February & March 2020 [was] really a lot [of] fun, I’ve enjoyed that time a lot and I’ve thought we’re really on a very positive way. But after the break things unfortunately changed.”
But he confirmed that he will continue playing active football after his contract at Arsenal ends. “There are two countries I want to play football in before I retire,” Ozil said. “Turkey and USA. If I went to Turkey, I could only go to Fenerbahce.”

This further confirmed the rumours of his potential move to the Turkish side. Ozil said that he grew up as a Fenerbache fan.
“[…] as a kid in Germany – every German-Turkish person supports a Turkish team when they grow up in Germany. And mine was Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce is like Real Madrid in Spain. The biggest club in the country,” Mesut Ozil tweeted.
There are many other interesting highlights for his Q&A session. For example, when a fan asked him the popular “Ronaldo or Messi?” question, he replied:
Messi has proven himself to be one of the best ever in Spain, but Ronaldo was always the best in every country he’s played in! ? https://t.co/OfsWqNLedM

He even said that his first jersey had the “Number 10” printed on its back and the name “Jay Jay Okocha“. Besides football, Ozil is popular for his humanitarian activities.
The Arsenal player helped feed children in a London community during the winter with 50,000 meals. He also organised a project that provided 157 surgeries for children suffering from left cleft lip, fire wound, clubfoot and others.
