Barcelona responded to the disappointment of losing to Atletico Madrid last week by crushing relegation-threatened Osasuna on Sunday, with former football legend Diego Maradona honored throughout the match.
Goals from Martin Braithwaite (29 minutes), Antoine Griezmann (42 minutes), and Philippe Coutinho (57 minutes) made it 3-0 for Ronald Koeman’s side before team captain Lionel Messi rifled in Barça’s fourth with his left foot from the edge of the box, revealing Maradona’s Newell’s Old Boys number 10 shirt, to honor the late Argentine legend in his celebration.
Barcelona had paid homage before kickoff to the late Maradona, who played for the club in an eventful yet disappointing spell from 1982 to 1984 as the players held a minute’s silence in front of an old Barca shirt bearing the number 10.
The victory lifts Barcelona to seventh on the La Liga standings, ten points off the summit.
