In this world where women are constantly clamouring for an equal world for both men and women, this theme is especially poignant.

Women are demanding a world where men and women are paid the same wages for their work, treated as full human beings, and given the same opportunities as men.
International women’s day is usually celebrated around the world on 8 March every year. This is a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while also calling out gender inequality around the world.
All around the world, celebrations can look different. While some women in some parts of the world have taken to social media and even the streets to proudly celebrate the day, others cannot.
In other parts of the world, however, women are risking their very lives to take to the streets to join rallies, embark on protests, amidst demands for freedom.
Hundreds of thousands of Chilean women have taken to the streets against sexual violence during a historic #InternationalWomensDay march in Santiago.

This goes to show just how far we have to go until we truly achieve freedom for everyone – men, women, and children.
In China, women’s day has been revered for a long time, and on this special day, men usually dress up in dresses and heels and climb up a mountain in the Guangdong province.

In countries like Pakistan though, the day is not quite so loving. Since 2018, the women have been taking to the streets every international women’s day to demand accountability for violence against women.
The march was organized by a group called ‘Hum Auratein’ (We the woman) with the slogan, ‘My body, my choice’.
Just like this is the disparity between celebration in several parts of the world. One thing is common among these places though, and that is social media.
Women and male allies from different countries have taken to social media to share special tweets celebrating women with the hashtag, #InternationalWomensDay.
