Giovane Elber says Neymar’s theatrics on the pitch are ‘too much’

Former Brazil forward Giovane Elber acknowledges Neymar’s talent calling him a “fantastic player”. He, however, thinks that the 26-year-old would do better if he would just focus on his football.

Neymar admitted for the first time that he exaggerates some tackles against him in a Gillette ad.

Elber told goal that Neymar had to look at the best in the world and observe that they “do not do these things” but “play football!”

“Too much. Too much. If you want to be one of the best three players in the world, you have to look at who the best are right now. Cristiano. Messi. Cristiano and Messi don’t do these things. They play football. And Neymar knows how to play football!” the 46-year-old said.

“There are times in the match where he could move the ball more quickly, but he keeps the ball and takes a foul from behind and falls by himself and the whole problem starts. That’s not good for him.

“I think it’s going to be big for him this season because now we’ve all seen who Neymar can be on the field. That he can have problems with the referees, that players are going to play against him and with the fans. You have to only think about playing football.”

Elber added finally that Neymar’s antics are unnecessary especially since he’s a very good player.

“It’s not necessary. Neymar is a fantastic player, a nice person and he doesn’t need this sort of thing.”

Elber was a prolific goal scorer in his time scoring a total of 133 league goals in 260 matches for three clubs.
