According to the CEO of the promotional company organising the mixed martial arts event, the event will still take place on new year’s eve.
Earlier this month Mayweather, 41, announced a comeback fight during a news conference in Tokyo, but later made a dramatic U-Turn and distanced himself from the bout, insisting that he only agreed to a three-round exhibition in front of a small group of wealthy spectators for a very large fee.
Now a statement from Rizin FF CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara on his Twitter account has confirmed that the December 31 fight will still take place and the misunderstanding with Floyd Mayweather has been resolved.
“The misunderstanding with Floyd Mayweather has been resolved,” Sakakibara said in a tweet posted on Friday, alongside a photograph of himself and Mayweather.
“He will fight with Tenshin Nasukawa on New Years Eve for RIZIN 14. I will explain the details once I am back in Japan.”
