After recording back-to-back draws against Sierra Leone in November, Nigeria’s Super Eagles has dropped three places from their previous position in the global rankings.
Senegal maintains their position as Africa’s top-ranked team, followed by Tunisia in second, Algeria in third, and Nigeria in fourth.
Nigeria is facing the consequences of failing to beat Sierra Leone both home and away, with the home leg ending 4-4 after the three-time African champions surrendered a four-goal advantage.
They were held to another draw in the second leg four days later in Freetown as the Leone Stars ensured Nigeria’s qualification for the 2022 continental showpiece in Cameroon is delayed.
John Keister’s Sierra Leone are among the biggest movers on the African continent as they climbed to 116th in the world, four places higher than their previous position.
Africa’s biggest movers are Burundi and Equitorial Guinea who have climbed 10 spots on the rankings after avoiding defeats to Mauritania and Libya respectively, in their African Cup of Nations qualification fixtures.
Belgium retained their spot at the summit of the global rankings, with France and Brazil up next in second and third, while England and Portugal complete the top five.
FIFA’s final rankings for 2020 will be announced in 12 days’ time, on December 10.
