Lupita is taking on the lead role, and acting as the executive producer alongside Danai Gurira for the adaptation of Chimamanda’s novel, Americanah.
Lupita arrived in Lagos over the weekend and attended a special event in her honour, hosted by Chimamanda, with the aim of introducing her to friends, family and members of the Nigerian creative community.
The 10-episode TV adaptation of Americanah will feature Lupita Nyong’o, Zackary Momoh, Uzo Aduba and Corey Hawkins, while Danai Gurira will serve as showrunner, and writer, Chinonye Chukwu will direct the first two episodes.
During the event, she revealed a bit about the upcoming series, some of which we already know, but some of which are new pieces of information.
Lupita revealed that part of the movie deal was that it would be shot in Lagos. As a result of this, she will be back in Lagos many more times after this.
So, don’t be surprised if you find Lupita and the gang shooting somewhere in Lagos.
Interestingly, Lupita also revealed that she is learning the Igbo language as well as Pidgin for her role in the limited TV series. Talk about dedication!
