Wizkid wins NAACP Image Award for ‘Brown Skin Girl’

0 1
Wizkid keeps proving that he is one of the greatest Nigerian singers right now, and has been for a while.

Wizkid has won the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) award alongside Beyonce for their groundbreaking song, ‘Brown Skin Girl‘.

‘Brown Skin Girl’ which also features Blue Ivy Carter was a revolutionary song that became a cultural movement back when it was released as part of ‘The Lion King: The Gift’ album.

Beyonce famously voiced the part of Simba’s mother on the reanimated version of ‘The Lion King’. Alongside that, she released ‘The Lion King: The Gift’, which she said is a love letter to Africa.

The album featured Nigerian superstars like Tiwa Savage, Mr Eazi, Yemi Alade, Wizkid, among others.

The NAACP Award is given out to honour outstanding performances in film, television, music, and literature. ‘Brown Skin Girl’ won in the ‘Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration’ category at the 51st edition.

This win makes Wizkid the first Nigerian to win the NAACP award. Check out the full list of winners below:
