Former US president George W. Bush announced that his daughter Barbara Bush and husband, Craig Coyne, welcomed their first child, a daughter named Cora, on Monday, 27 September 2021.
The former president took to his Presidential Center’s Twitter account on Wednesday, 29 September 2021, to share the news. He wrote:
“With full hearts, Laura and I are delighted to announce the birth of our new granddaughter.
“Barbara gave birth to Cora Georgia Coyne [on 27 September 2021], in Maine — not far from our family home where Barbara and Craig were married. Cora is healthy and adorable, and we are proud and grateful.”
Barbara’s twin sister, Jenna Bush Hager, wasn’t left out in the celebration as she also used her social media page to share the delightful news.

She captioned the post, “Dearest Cora Georgia, Today is the day I got to meet my most beautiful, precious, feisty, niece (a bit earlier than we expected!). I witnessed in awe as my dearest, toughest @barbara.p.bush became a mama. And today is the day I fell in love! Some cousins are anxiously waiting to play with you, but not just yet love. Xx auntie j.”
The TODAY show host, Jenna Bush Hager, 39, who has three kids of her own, also shared several photos with the newborn as well as her twin and of Coyne posing with Cora at the hospital.
While this is happy news, it came as a surprise as neither Barbara Bush, 39, nor her husband had not previously announced that they were expecting a child. Barbara and her husband, screenwriter Craig Coyne, were set up by friends on a blind date in November 2017.
Since then, the duo has been very private about their relationship and was never even photographed together at public events till their wedding day, in October 2018.
