Harry and Meghan’s relationship
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex met each other for the first time on a blind date in mid-2016. They were introduced by a mutual friend who some sources claim to be Prince Harry’s friend, Violet von Westenholz, while others say it was fashion designer Mischa Nonoo. Harry and Meghan hit it off on the spot, and in a later interview, Harry said he knew from that first date that Meghan was “the one”. A month after their first meeting, Meghan accompanied Harry to Africa, where they got to bond more deeply.
They managed to keep their relationship a secret for about four months until the news broke in October. Then, in November 2016, it was reported that Prince Harry had introduced Meghan to his father, Prince Charles. Their struggles with the media commenced around the same time, and Harry had to implore the public to desist from trolling and bashing his girlfriend. The Royal Family seemed to be in support of the relationship, as per reports. Prince Williams even weighed in at some point, debunking reports that he wasn’t supporting the relationship.
Meghan was introduced to Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte in early 2017, and according to US Weekly, they got along quite well. Both Harry and Meghan commented on how supportive William and his wife had been. Things progressively changed for Meghan, and she had to close her lifestyle blog, which she had run for three years. The couple made their first public appearance as an item at the annual Audi Polo Challenge in Ascot, England on 7 May 2017.
Harry and Megan interviews
Of course, there was public and media scrutiny, and the pair have had many interviews over time to set record straight, answer questions and issue strong statements. Arguably the most talked-about one — at the time — was Meghan’s Vanity Fair interview in late 2017 where she opened up about their relationship for the first time.
“We’re a couple. We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story,” she said. They had been together for over a year by that time.
Not so long after this, Harry in an interview with BBC spoke about Meghan’s mom who he had by then met a number of times. “Her mom is amazing,” he said.
After stepping back from their position as senior members of the Royal Family in 2020, they had a two-hour sit down with Oprah Winfrey in March of 2021 to discuss everything, ranging from their relationship, the Royal Family, their stepping back from Royal duties, and much more. The wedding was held on 19 May 2018 in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in the United Kingdom. In attendance were notable guests, like Oprah, David and Victoria Beckham, and the royal family. For the ceremony, Meghan was dressed in a beautiful Givenchy gown and a chic halter Stella McCartney dress for the reception at the Frogmore House. On the morning of the wedding, Prince Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, conferred upon him the titles of Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton, and Baron Kilkeel.
The costs for the cake, the florist, and the catering had been estimated to be £50,000, £110,000, and £286,000 respectively, and the overall cost was expected to be £32 million. It was predicted that the wedding would trigger a tourism boom and boost the economy by up to £500 million.

Latest news and updates
There is no gainsaying that Harry and Meghan are always in the news for one thing or another. It is one of the many things that come with their status and societal standing. However, what has been the biggest news item about them was their decision to step back from the Royal Family. In January 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex first made their intention to step back from their roles as working royals known.
Negotiations followed with the Royal Family, and they were allowed to do as they planned. The catch was that they were no longer allowed to use the term “Royal” in any professional context. By March of the same year, everything was finalized, and they officially transitioned into their new lives. It wasn’t long before the couple got a deal with Netflix and Spotify, and of course, launched their NGO, Archewell.
As of 12 October, the couple joined Ethic, a $1.3 billion sustainable investment fund, as “impact partners”. Founded in 2015, Ethic is an investment company that is working towards a future of sustainable investment for all.
In a statement on their Archewell website, the couple explained, “We believe it’s time for more people to have a seat at the table when decisions are made that impact everyone. We want to rethink the nature of investing to help solve the global issues we all face.”
Harry and Meghan net worth
According to Celebrity Networth and Yahoo Finance, amongst other sources, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a combined net worth of $60 million. It is not so difficult to trace how they arrived at such figures. As mentioned earlier, the couple signed a number of deals with companies like Netflix and Spotify.
In September 2020, the Duke and Duchess signed a multiyear, $100 million contract with Netflix to produce documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows, and children’s programming. In December of 2020, they announced a partnership with Spotify, which some industry experts report to be about $35 million. Add those to book deals that each of them has, which combined may well be upwards of $40 million.
There is much to say about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and as earlier said, an article won’t suffice. Theirs is an inspiring story of love and a bond too strong to be broken by adversity. The couple have done what is considered unprecedented to forge a different path for themselves. From all indications, they’re doing just fine, and they will continue to. The world surely is their oyster.
