The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige has a new documentary coming soon on Amazon Prime. Titled Mary J. Blige’s My Life, the documentary is set to premiere on 25 June.
The 9-times Grammys winner who recently marked the 25th year of her career brings herself even closer to her fans with this documentary in collaboration with Amazon Studios. It takes us on a journey through the life of M.J Blige from the Slocumb projects in Yonkers, New York to her successful and laurels-filled career.
Over the course of the past 25 years, Blige has excelled in different fields within the entertainment industry. From music to acting, and production. Blige who most recently starred as Monet in the Starz Power spinoff series, Power Book II: Ghost, now tells her own story with this documentary.
It is interesting that this Mary J. Blige’s documentary is executive produced by Blige and Sean Combs who produced Blige’s debut album, What’s the 411 in 1992. Talk about a working relationship that has stood the test of time.

Amazon on Tuesday released the first trailer for the doccie. “In Oscar-winning filmmaker Vanessa Roth’s documentary Mary J. Blige’s My Life, the singer, producer and actress reveals the demons and blessings that inspired the record and propelled her from the soul-crushing world of New York’s housing projects to international stardom,” the synopsis reads.
“In the process, she celebrates the 25th anniversary of her most influential work by performing the album live for the first time,” it concludes.

It really is a good time for the 50-year-old who also recently was honored with a spot on the Apollo Walk of Fame. She joins other famed artists like James Brown and Aretha Franklin among many others.
