Grammy-nominated rapper DaBaby has been released after being questioned in a shooting that wounded two people in Miami. Two suspects are now in custody; 29-year-old Christopher Urena and 21-year-old Wisdom Awute, who are now facing criminal charges, including attempted first-degree murder.
Police received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting just after 11:30 p.m. on Monday. According to the police report, Urena took off in a stolen vehicle after shooting a victim in the back while rapper Awute chased down victims who ran away towards a nearby park. He shot a man in the leg.
Both victims were taken to the hospital for immediate treatment. One of the gunshot victims has been discharged while the second is in critical condition and still receiving treatment in the hospital.

Jonathan Kirk who is popularly known as DaBaby was questioned by officials on Tuesday in connection to the shooting. Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez confirmed this in a press release. Rodriguez had said earlier that ‘several possible suspects‘ were detained. He later noted that Kirk had been let go while two other people were being held as suspects.
The shooting took place on Ocean Drive, a popular strip of restaurants and hotels in South Beach, Miami. During the investigation, the heavily traveled MacArthur Causeway nearby was shut down in both directions.
DaBaby, 29, was arrested earlier this year in Los Angeles. Beverly Hills police said he took a loaded gun into an upscale store on Rodeo Drive.
The North Carolina rapper’s song ‘Rockstar’ was one of the biggest hits of 2020, and was nominated for a Grammy Award for record of the year. ‘Rockstar’ won top rap song at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards and Top Streaming song. The single spent seven weeks at no. 1 on the Hot 100.
