Bakky Adeoye and Desmond Elliot set to shoot June 12

Nollywood actors and producers, Desmond Elliot, Sola Fosudo, Bakky Adeoye and Edward Olutoke have concluded plans for the filming of June 12, a movie that examines the country’s journey to freedom.

In a chat with Punch, Adeoye one of the producers of the film said the movie would capture Nigeria’s history and the resilience of the Nigerian masses.

The movie is aimed at alleviating poverty, which was the fundamental purpose of the democratic election held on June 12, 1993, to better the lives of Nigerians and empower the youth. The movie will not focus solely on MKO Abiola or his family but it will focus on all the sectors of the Nigerian economy and how that historic date affected Nigerians.

“It is a movie set to capture the landmark of June 12 and it will bring clarity to the events that marked this historical watershed based on true life story. The movie focuses on the hope of Nigerians following the political campaign of MKO Abiola on the SDP platform that a new democracy was to emerge.

“The peak of the story was the June 12 election, which saw the winning of political power by MKO Abiola and the cancellation of the results by the military junta headed by General Ibrahim Babaginda. This led to the emergence of late General Sani Abacha, the greatest dictator Nigeria has ever produced.”
