Can An English Club Win This UEFA Champions League?

The last time an EPL team won this cup was back in the 2011/2012 season when Chelsea beat Bayern Munich and it was also the last time any of them made it past the semi-final stages. In fact, in the last 17 seasons, English clubs have won the title only three times and now we look at the possibility of them clinching another title, with more chances this time as there are five of them now.

Mathematically, there is a probability of about 0.16 that the title will go to England this term but let us look at the most likely of them.

Manchester City is the definition of ‘getting the work done’, with 14 wins in their last 14 games, flying high is the only way to describe this team. They are in a good position to give the title a try and they have the quality and also the finance to back it up.

Not too far behind them is their derby rivals Manchester United who like them top their group too, but they will be looking to improve the quality of their attack as Lukaku looks to be dropping under the weight of his responsibilities. If injury updates are favorable, the Red Devils should be able to go all the way too.

‘We are ready to challenge for the title’, that was what Harry Kane said about Tottenham’s chances and who are we to argue with the man holding the gun? There will be doubts that the jinx will turn up any time soon and the Spurs will slip up, but for now and with their impressive showings against top teams like Dortmund and Real Madrid, we will do well to watch them do their best in the tournament.

Liverpool has had it relatively easy, with a mild group and has really not faced big tests apart from their draw against stuttering Sevilla. However, the Reds are deservedly up to some good in the competition with their attacking prowess and the coach will do well to improve the confidence in the players before they start facing big names in the round of 16.

The only EPL team that are not on top of their group is Chelsea and they are yet to prove their worth with the new squad that Conte used to lift the local title last season. It remains to be seen how they will fare when the heat gets turned up in the knockout stages should they make it.

What do you think, which of them can lift the trophy?
