This year’s Oscar nominations includes The Power of the Dog, Dune, Don’t Look Up and more. As expected, a couple of faves were left out and has got their fans complaining.
The Golden Globes kickstarted this year’s award season but it wasn’t televised due to issues with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the Grammy also recently got pushed back from January 31st to April 3 due to issues relating to the outbreak of COVID-19 Omicron Variant. The announcement ceremony was hosted by American actress Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jones and as usual, the nominations came with a few surprises and snubs. Here we break down the nominations.

Encanto, Beyonce and Don’t Look Up
Walt Disney’s latest animated musical Encanto scored nominations too, getting nominated for Best Animated Feature Film, and Music (Original Score); 2021 (Luca )and (Raya and the Last Dragon) are also nominated in this category.
2021 Marvel Studio’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: No Way Home also scored a nomination for Visual Effects.
Another nomination worth mentioning would be Kristen Stewart’s portrayal of Princess Diana in the 2021 historical fiction psychological drama film Spencer . She grabbed a nomination for Actress in A Leading Role for Spencer and is up against Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), Olivia Coleman (The Lost Daughter), Penelope Cruz (Parallel Mothers), and Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos).
Beyonce also landed a nomination in this year’s nomination, the singer-songwriter is nominated for Music (Original Score) for the song “Be Alive” an original soundtrack from the movie King Richard. She’s also a first-time nominee.
The biggest surprise for this year’s nomination has to be Netflix’s Don’t Look Up. The movie earned four nominations, it marked this year’s biggest surprise nomination because the movie was met with mixed reviews following its release back in December 2021, it scored nominations for Best Picture, Film Editing, Music (Original Score), and Writing (Original Screenplay). For the biggest snub this year, it has to be House of Gucci, which didn’t get any nomination in the acting category despite Lady Gaga and Adam Driver’s critically praised performance in the biographical crime drama rather it only got nominated in the category for Makeup and Hairstyling.
The Oscars will announce its winners during its 94th edition on Sunday, 27 March 2022, and the ceremony will hold at Dolby Theatre at Hollywood and Highland Center in Hollywood.
