Liam Hemsworth is divorcing Miley Cyrus almost eight months after their surprise wedding, according to documents viewed by People and obtained by The Blast.
The actor, who hired renowned Hollywood divorce attorney Laura Wasser, cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
Hemsworth and Cyrus have not yet publicly responded to the divorce reports, but the news arrives nearly two weeks after the pop star first announced their breakup. “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” her rep says in a statement released on 10 August. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.”

The Australian actor, who was in his native country when the news broke, briefly addressed the split on Instagram days later, saying he wishes Cyrus “nothing but health and happiness going forward.”
He adds: “This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”
Miley also vaguely spoke out about their separation in an Instagram post in which she discussed the inevitability of change. “Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win,” she wrote in a lengthy caption.
Tabloid attention on Cyrus’s breakup from Hemsworth peaked after the singer was seen kissing her friend and Brody Jenner’s ex, Kaitlynn Carter, during a vacation with friends in Italy.
Cyrus and Hemsworth, who tied the knot in Tennessee in December 2018, first met on the set of their 2010 movie, The Last Song, and dated on and off in the years that followed. They celebrated 10 years together earlier this summer.
