This year there is good natured jousting among writers for the top spot in writing as numerous awards are up for grabs, we take a look at the shortlist below:
Text Book Centre Jomo Kenyatta Prize For Literature.
Organizers: Kenya Publishers Association (KPA).
It is given out for the best fiction works that have been published two years to the prize that is awarded every two years. The prize is split into categories and this year in:
English Adult Category.

The Whistleblower by Samuel Wachira (published by Longhorn).
Kiswahili Adult Category.
Majira ya Utasa by Timothy Arege (published by Spotlight Publishers).
Mashetani Wa Alepo by Tom Olali (published by Jomo Kenyatta Foundation).
Kigodo Cha Simanzi Na Hadithi Zingine by Jeff Mandila (published by Jomo Kenyatta Foundation).
English Youth Category.
Ghost and the Fortune Hunters by Goro Wa Kamau (published by Longhorn Publishers).
The Wind Under His Wings by Erick Luvumbazi (published by Story Moja Publishers).
The Dreamer by Imali J. Abala (published by Nsemia Publishers).
Kiswahili Youth Category.
Adhabu Ya Mahaba by Peter Juma (published by Longhorn Publishers)
Zaidi Ya Mipaka by Jeff Mandila (published by Jomo Kenyatta Foundation).
Majilio Ya Mkombozi by Mwenda Mbatiah (published by Moran Publishers).

Two Huts on Two Hills by Charles Gecaga (published by Kenya Literature Bureau)
There are no books shortlisted for the Kiswahili children category as the team of judges, led by Dr. Tom Odhiambo that includes Prof. Clara Momanyi and Dr. Larry Ndivo, announced that none of the works put forward met their standards.
