Group A: Monaco Vs Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid had the last laugh after they put up a wonderful comeback against Monaco. As early as the 18th minute.

Monaco were already ahead thanks to a  Grandier’s strike, but Atletico remained unfazed.

The equaliser came sometime in the 32nd minute from a typical Diego Costa calm finish and they then added another at the end of the first have via Gimenez’ header from Koke’s corner.

Group A: Club Brugge Vs Dortmund

There is not much to discuss in this fixture as the only thing that separated the two sides was a Pulisic goal to give Dortmund the 3 points they needed.

A very quick play from Dortmund and a bad clearance ultimately led to the downfall of Club Brugge.

Group B: Inter Milan Vs Tottenham

A match that was not without its moments. Tottenham took the lead in the 53rd minute of the game with a goal from Eriksen owing to Lamela’s assist and a beautiful half-volley.

Their happiness was, however, short-lived when Icardi capitalised on Asamoah’s assist to score the 85th-minute goal

Inter went on to seal the deal with Vecino’s 90+2 minute header to break the hearts of Tottenham faithful.

Group B: Barcelona Vs PSV

The scoring here was opened by Lionel Messi’s direct free kick in the 31st minute and the Catalans went on to dominate the rest of the game in true Barcelona form. The game ended 4-0 thanks to a Messi hattrick and a goal from Dembele.

Umtiti picked up a red card in the 79th minute but it didn’t matter much to a team as determined as Barcelona to win the Champions League trophy.

Group C: Liverpool VS PSG

Liverpool and PSG had a very entertaining game that ended 3-2 in favour of Liverpool with goals coming in from Daniel Sturridge, Milner and Roberto Firmino for Liverpool, while Meunier and Mbappe scored for PSG.

The winning goal for Liverpool would only come after Firmino was brought on as a substitute following an eye injury that saw him start from the bench.

He, in turn, celebrated his goal by covering one eye with his palm, as if to score “I scored with only one eye”

Group C: Red Star Belgrade Vs Napoli

One of the only two draws on matchday one. It would end goalless as none of the teams was able to find the back of the net.

Napoli did dominate possession though with 66% possession and 9 shots on target out of a total of 15, while Red Star only had 3 shots on target out of their total of 6

Group D: Galatasaray Vs Lokomotiv Moscow

Lokomotiv suffered a three-goal loss to Galatasaray who also managed to keep a clean sheet against the Russian side.

An early goal from Rodrigues opened the scoring for Galatasaray while Derdiyok and Inan sealed the deal for the home side.

Badou N’Diaye will be missing the return leg though as he picked up a red card in the 87th minute of the game.

Group D: Schalke Vs Porto

The only other draw in the Champions League on matchday one. The game was not without its own drama as Porto’s Alex Telles had his penalty saved by Schalke’s Fahrmann in the 13th minute of the game.

Schalke went on to score via Embolo’s strike, but the scores were later brought level by another penalty, this time well put away by Otavio.
