Barcelona was without Lionel Messi in their Spanish Super Cup semifinal clash with Real Sociedad but Ter Stegen impressed with a brilliant performance in front of goal.
Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona lined up against Real Sociedad without Lionel Messi and had to rely on an assured performance from their number one, Ter Stegen, to progress from the match.
The match was a pretty open match with both sides finding chances to score however, a standout moment for Barcelona’s shot stoppers highlighted below.

However, before that, Frenkie De Jong had produced a creative header to put Griezmann’s cross at the back of the net. Then he turned culprit in Sociedad’s equaliser.
The referee adjudged that the ball had come off his arm inside the box and Mikel Oyarzabal sent Ter Stegen the other way to level the scores.

Ousmane Dembele troubled Real Sociedad all through the game but he just could not convert. De Jong also came quite close but a second touch spoilt his chance of a brace.
Ter Stegen again came to the rescue in the final moments of the extra-time. He flew across goal and got his fingertips on a goal-bound freekick.

He was not done with his heroics as he saved two penalties during the shootout and while De Jong and Griezmann also lost theirs, Willan Jose’s miss was enough for Barcelona to progress.
Ricard Puig also impressed the Barcelona faithful as the youngster had volunteered to take the usually decisive fifth penalty and cooly scored as well.
The win means that Barcelona will either face Real Madrid or Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday, 17 January 2021.
