‘Anthony Joshua is not as good as people think’- Tyson Fury

Tyson Fury has said that judging from his recent form, he will be able to knock out Anthony Joshua within two rounds.

Gearing up for what will likely be the biggest fight in British boxing history, Tyson Fury made the statement in an apparent attempt to taunt Anthony Joshua as the build up to the fight gathers momentum.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday, 4 January 2021, Fury said; “I don’t believe he’s (Joshua) as good as people crack him up to be, or he doesn’t believe he is in his own self.”

He points out that Joshua’s recent fights – a unanimous points decision over Andy Ruiz Junior in December 2019 and a ninth-round knockout of Kubrat Pulev in December 2020 – has left the British heavyweight champion unsure of himself.

“He’s got a confidence issue. He’s coming off two shaky performances and boxing is all about who is in form and who isn’t. In his last two fights, he’s not in form,” Tyson Fury claimed.

As for himself, he says he is full of confidence. He claims that his last two fights against Otto Wallin and Deontay Wilder are enough proof of his form.

“I just believe [I’ll] take him out early, very early, maybe even one round or two rounds,” Tyson Fury predicted.

While there is no concrete information about a fight between the two boxers, it is being anticipated. There is hope that it will come sooner than later.

Anthony Joshua still has to face Oleksandr Uysk who is challenging his WBO title while Tyson Fury may still fight Wilder again.

Fury claims that he has been ready to face Joshua in the ring for a long time. “This fight has been brewing for a long time. They’ve been avoiding me for a long time and now it’s finally got to happen,” he told Sky Sports.

The WBC belt holder went on to criticise the boxing system. “Boxing is one of those sports where rarely do you see the best fight the best. It’s always the champion picks his opponents and you never get the two top guys fighting each other,” he complained.

To prove his point, Fury mentioned that the fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao should have happened earlier. Instead, when it finally took place, Pacquiao was well past his prime.

To conclude his thoughts on a possible fight against Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury said; “So hopefully we get to go one-on-one combat with not only the two best heavyweights out there but two heavyweights who are in their prime and not past it.”
