Tiwa Savage Cancels her Performance Due to Xenophobia in SA
Following the spree of killings and lootings targeting Nigerians in particular and other black Africans in South Africa, Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has cancelled her scheduled performance coming up later this month in South Africa.
The singer was scheduled to perform at the upcoming DSTV Delicious Festival, which was to hold in Johannesburg, the same city where five Nigerians were murdered and businesses belonging to Nigerians were looted in the latest attack that took place on Monday night.
Tiwa Savage, who is set to release her latest single, 49-99, under the Universal Music Group, called the attack ‘sick.’ She tweets:
“I refuse to watch the barbaric butchering of my people in SA. This is SICK. For this reason, I will NOT be performing at the upcoming DSTV delicious Festival in Johannesburg on the 21st of September. My prayers are with all the victims and families affected by this.”

She continues: “But yet I was booked to perform at the festival. This is a serious issue were NO ONE wins when blood is shed whether old videos or not. Issue needs to be resolved. We Africans (including South Africans) need each other.”
Tiwa’s action comes after fellow Nigerian international superstar Burna Boy (born Damini Ogulu) vows never to set foot again in South Africa unless their government took actions.
The Burna, who says he had been a victim of xenophobia in South Africa, writes:
“I have not set foot in SA since 2017. And I will NOT EVER go to South Africa again for any reason until the SOUTH AFRICAN government wakes the f--k up and really performs A miracle because I don’t know how they can even possibly fix this.
In response to a Twitter user who claims the attacks were motivated because of drug pedalling and who also accuses Tiwa Savage of supporting drug pushing, the singer refutes the accusation, noting that the solution to fighting drug crime is not to kill “my dear brother.”
Her words: “I’m not in support of drug dealing nor am I in support of killing. The solution to fighting drug crime is not killing my dear brother.”
