Twitter co-founder and CEO, Jack Dorsey, arrives Nigeria – Twitter reacts

Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of popular social media platform Twitter just arrived in Nigeria for a business visit that will also take him to some African countries that also include Ghana, South Africa and Ethiopia.

The Twitter CEO first publicly tweeted back in October that he would be meeting with entrepreneurs during the visit. According to a tweet he shared, we expect he would probably be in Africa for much of November.

And now he is here in Nigeria, as he gratefully tweets: “So grateful to finally be in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the details of the visit are still hazy but one supposition according to TechPoint is that the CEO may introduce to entrepreneurs his disruptive card payment technology called Square, which strategically has also ventured into cryptocurrency as well.

Or maybe, it could be that Jack Dorsey and the folks at Twitter wants to tap into the Nigerian market. We’re sure that folks at the microblogging tech company can see the huge traffic from Nigeria, making it an advertiser’s haven. Nigeria is, after all, African’s biggest economy with a population of over 190 million people – no serious global business can ignore that fact. If that were the case, Twitter would not be the first technology company to want to take advantage of the enormous opportunity available in Nigeria. Facebook and Google are ahead in that regard. So, while exciting, Jack Dorsey’s visit to Nigeria is not particularly surprising. In fact, the legitimate question should be, ‘what took him this long?’

Whatever the case may be, one thing is certain though, Nigerians are excited to know about Jack Dorsey’s visit to the country, and naturally, many have taken to Twitter to express their feelings.

The result? Jack is currently number one on Twitter Nigerian trends with over 167 thousand tweets mentioning the name.

And trust Nigerians, they are not shy to express their feelings, hopes, frustrations, grievances and whatnots regarding Jack, his company Twitter and miscellaneous affiliates; not forgetting sarcasm, jokes, showcasing our best and playing the perfect hosts – on Twitter. And that was exactly what they did!

Here’s a selection of the tweets to illustrate what we mean:

Yes, if only Jack could take a moment to digest some of these tweets, he would probably gain more insight into the psychology and what motivates Nigerians than any paid expert could ever bring to him.

And as for us, we would keep you updated as the details of his visit get released.

Welcome Jack Dorsey, to Nigeria.
