Earlier in the year, the book was adapted into a play at the Arcola Theatre, London and now our wish is coming true, as a stage adaptation is coming to Lagos as well.
The Secret Lives Of Baba Segi’s Wives is an engrossing and hilarious tale of family strife, secrets and polygamy in modern-day Nigeria. The story follows Baba Segi and his 3 illiterate wives who try all they could to keep their husband’s attention and their secrets.
In one fell swoop, Lola Shoneyin touches several social issues – rape, insecurity, theft and family politics.
While the play in London was good, it lacked the Nigerian flavour (due to the use of mostly British actors), but we can be sure that the Lagos stage will deliver what London stage could not.
