Becoming is the memoir of the former USA first lady, and was published in 2018. It was nominated in the Spoken Word category alongside Beastie Boys Book, I.V., 20 Years As A Two-Time Cancer Survivor, Mr. Know-It-All, and Sekou Andrews & The String Theory.
Described by the author as a deeply personal experience, the book talks about her roots and how she found her voice, as well as her time in the White House, her public health campaign, and her role as a mother.
It has sold more than any other book published in America, and broke that record in just 15 days.
Should she win, Michelle Obama will not be the first world leader to have won the prize.
Her husband, former President Barack Obama won the prize in 2006 and 2008.
Fellow ex-president Jimmy Carter won three Grammy awards in the category: one in 2007, another in 2016 and the most recent one in 2019.
Bill Clinton won the Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album in 2005. His wife Hillary Clinton won the category back in 1997 and was nominated again in 2004.
